Kamikazes are very effective at taking down planes. It did have its cons, however. First off, it was pretty difficult for a kamikaze to actually crash into their enemy. Most of the ships(their main target) were equipped with heavy gun power, and shot down most of the aircrafts before they even got close. Approximately 7,465 Japanese kamikazes flew to their death during WW2.
There are a lot of pros of using kamikazes, that's why the Japs did it. First, it was more accurate then dropping bombs and then flying off. Most of the aircrafts would get shot down if they missed their bombs. Another thing is that the training time is not long. All you need to know is how to take off and how to steer. An obvious con is that there was the potential to destroy a whole ship with one plane. (The chances aren't likely, though). As a last note the Japanese had plenty volunteers for the job.
